Last Friday, we talked about our first development guidepost: We want to put THE definitive turn based tactics game in your pocket. Today, we’ve got the second:

We want to put a premier Warhammer: 40,000 experience in your pocket.

This one’s a bit challenging, because Warhammer: 40,000 means so much to so many different people all over the world. Many of you have lived in this world for years and we want to do it justice! We think that our top priorities should be celebrating the intensely tactical nature of the Warhammer gameplay, and tell stories with the full range of factions in this great big glorious world.

Our type of turn-based tactical design (using the evergreen hex terrain style of map) originates in the tabletop/board game hobbies, so right out of the gate it feels like a good match. Defined rules of engagement, controlled movement based on the type of unit, clever strategy that doesn’t require luck but takes full advantage of luck when it comes…anyone who ever brought their armies to a hobby shop and spent a pleasant afternoon deploying them and shaking the dice will feel right at home.

Just as familiar will be the factions and story. We know these factions. We’ve collected them, we’ve devoured the books about them, and we know how each of them matters to the whole world our game is joining.

That’s Tacticus. As Warhammer players ourselves, we know that a big part of the hobby isn’t just the gameplay, though. It’s interacting with our fellow hobbyists, it’s reading stories and watching videos, it’s showing off our armies — it’s being part of the wider Warhammer community. That’s why we hope our players will be able to use Tacticus to connect with other players and keep in touch with the hobby…without needing seven spare hours to haul out the supplies and travel to games and events.

Even though we won’t stop doing that whenever possible!
