We’ve been doing so many “big picture” dev blogs lately. Who’s ready for a dive into some detail?

Despite super soldiers, orks, and daemons running amok in the galaxy, in the 41st millennium humans can still pack a punch. The regiments of the Astra Militarum are endless and bring a variety of units for players to choose from.

The Imperial Guard is most known for their tanks and infantry such as the Death Korps of Krieg and the Catachan Jungle Fighters and the Mordian Iron Guard. However, there is one imperial stalwart who has always stood out even in such a vast crowd.

The legendary Yarrick is respected by all armies of the Imperium, possibly even more so by the Orks — the most savage force in the galaxy. Known for his heroics on Armageddon against Ghazghkull’s endless Ork horde, Yarrick will be a playable option in Tacticus.

Old Bale Eye, as the orks call him, proves that human will is greater than the greenskin might. Taking the field with his Power Klaw and extreme military genius, he’ll bring success to all kinds of lineups.

Yarrick offers the following stats and abilities:

COMMISSAR YARRICK
Move: 3
Range (2), damage type BOLTER (2 Hits) (Storm Bolter)
Melee, damage type POWER (3 Hits) (Power Klaw)

Active Ability: Send In the Next Wave. This ability summons a number of Cadian Guardsmen that immediately fire upon a nearby target – the exact number depending on how strong you make the ability. Guardsmen have their own hit points, and deal LAS Damage.

Passive Ability: Summary Execution. After “Battle Fatigue” has been triggered once, having Yarrick deployed negates it for the rest of the battle. In addition, every friendly unit who had the “Battle Fatigue” trait now deals extra damage.

What’s Battle Fatigue? If an ally dies in an adjacent hex, there’s a chance that a unit with Battle Fatigue will flee and be removed from the battle. The chance is higher if the ally was Overkilled.

Traits: Resilient. A character with the Resilient trait is a survivor. If he takes lethal Damage and is not already at 1 HP, he’ll go down to 1 HP instead of dying (Unless he’s been Overkilled. Then he’ll be dead.)

Other: Yarrick has Block [Power Field 4+]

As the weeks of development continue, we will be showing off more Imperial Guard units in a faction focus, and all the different damage types and abilities will make more sense. You may even start to see strategic ways of combining the different units.

There is a lot more coming to Tacticus that we cannot wait to share with you, and we can’t wait to see you trying new tactics for yourselves.
