The first look video is coming along, and so is the first playable build, and that means we’re going to be enlisting live players…soon. With all the frantic activity, it seemed like a good time to take a moment and remind ourselves and our future community of the basics: Why should you play our Warhammer game? And why did we want to make it?

More than anything else, the answer is because we love Warhammer 40,000, and because it is a perfect fit for the kinds of games we make. As we’ve said before, we are making games for serious gamers, people who play games as their primary hobby and a major social outlet. Our games aren’t meant to be simple, they’re meant to be mastered, and we hope the journey to mastery is challenging and rewarding. Warhammer 40,000 players already know and love this journey or they wouldn’t play!

We want to tell stories in this universe, and have those stories feel right to the fans. We want our players to say, yeah, that _feels_ like Warhammer 40,000. Arranging your squad on our virtual terrain won’t be the same as arranging your minis on the table, but we want it to leave you with the same feeling of anticipation.

Community is at the heart of what we do, and we want to build bonds between Warhammer players that don’t depend on having a weekend free, or having seven hours to spare on a campaign. We still do that stuff whenever we get the chance, of course, but being able to dip into the Warhammer universe for a few minutes or a few hours and make progress either way sounds good to our ears. Having Warhammer in your pocket, and being able to connect with your fellow hobbyists is a goal worth shooting for.

Our games spring from a great love of classic games that inspired us, like Civ 5, Panzer General and Heroes of Might and Magic. Make a small move here, pay attention to the terrain over there, protect your ranged damage dealers. We call it “tactical luck” – don’t count on luck, but take advantage of luck when it comes to you. We want to tell good stories that are true to the lore, and deliver a gem of a fast skirmish combat game in the bargain.
